A Regional Centre of Expertise (RCE) is a network of formal and non-formal educational institutions dedicated to promoting education for sustainable development. Each RCE helps translate the global sustainable development agenda into a local plan of action. Their work helps create innovative approaches to address sustainability challenges through research and education, while building a strong knowledge base around sustainable development in their respective regions. There are currently 88 Regional Centres of Expertise operating around the world
promoting education for sustainable development (ESD) at local and regional levels. The RCEs create dialogue, partnerships and a knowledge base around sustainable development based on local priorities and issues.

Partners

Strong partnerships create greater impact for the collective work being done to promote education for sustainable development. Each RCE partners with some the world’s foremost educational, scientific and technological institutions. These partnerships take place independently and through the RCE’s affiliation with the Education for Sustainable Development programme at the United Nations University Institute for Advanced Studies.
